Senator Joseph Biden of Delaware, the senior Democrat on theSenate Foreign Relations Committee, will speak at the National PressClub on Sept. 7.
A potential 2008 presidential candidate, Biden will deliver amajor address on rethinking America's future security. Five yearsafter the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Biden will critique the Bushadministration's performance and outline his own comprehensiveapproach to homeland security and vision for restoring what he callsAmerica's "place in the world."
Biden has been prescient before. On Sept. 10, 2001, he warned aNational Press Club audience about the looming threat of terrorismand the dangers of unconventional weapons that included, he cautionedthen, "the belly of a plane." Since then, as one of the mostprominent Democratic voices in foreign policy, he has soundlycriticized President Bush's handling of the war in Iraq.
Biden is now actively pursuing the Democratic presidentialnomination, having spent two weeks in Iowa during August. He hasserved in the Senate since his election in 1972. He lives inWilmington, Del. with his wife Jill and commutes to Washington bytrain when the Senate is in session.
